Native Florida landscape in Tampa by Living Spaces Gardening

Serving Tampa, Florida

Native landscaping built for Tampa.

Big city, bigger range of landscape conditions. Tampa yards can be urban infill, suburban sprawl, historic bungalow, waterfront estate, or anything in between. We design native landscapes for every one of them.

Native Florida garden in Tampa by Living Spaces Gardening

Tampa Gardens

A garden built for Tampa, not shipped in from somewhere else.

Tampa covers a huge range of microclimates. Urban Seminole Heights has different soil than suburban New Tampa. Waterfront Hyde Park has different plant needs than inland Carrollwood. No single template works for Tampa.

What works everywhere is matching native Florida plants to your specific property. Sunny yards get native wildflowers and grasses. Shaded yards under mature oaks get understory natives like wild coffee and beautyberry. Flooded yards get rain gardens.

We cross the bay to Tampa regularly and have designed projects from South Tampa to the northern suburbs. Every project starts with a site visit so we can design for the real conditions, not the average.

Good questions

Tampa questions
about native landscaping

Tampa has diverse conditions, so the right palette depends on your specific neighborhood. Common high-performing natives include live oak, southern magnolia, cabbage palm, muhly grass, firebush, coontie, saw palmetto, beautyberry, and wild coffee. We match plants to your exact site.

Yes. We have designed native landscapes across Seminole Heights, Hyde Park, and other historic Tampa neighborhoods. Native plants fit well with historic architecture because many of these species were in Florida long before the city was.

For most homeowners, yes. Established native landscapes need far less water, no pesticides, and dramatically less replacement than traditional turf and ornamentals. The upfront design investment usually pays off in lower water bills, reduced maintenance costs, and a yard that actually supports Florida ecology.

Yes. Florida law protects homeowners' rights to install Florida-Friendly landscaping. We provide documentation and communicate with HOAs when needed to help approvals go smoothly.

Our office is at 2621 4th Ave S in St. Petersburg, about 25 to 40 minutes from most of Tampa depending on bridge traffic. We work the Tampa side of the bay regularly.

Meet the family

The Wray-Weisensel Family

Kiamesha Wray and Justus Weisensel are the couple behind Living Spaces Gardening and Living Restorations. Family owned, family operated. Based in St. Petersburg since day one.

Kiamesha is a certified Florida Master Naturalist. She grew up on dig sites with her archaeologist mother and spent weekends camping along Florida's rivers and springs with her father. Justus is a premier woodworker and builder. He's the one grading your soil, placing the boulders, building the things that have to last.

Their kids fuel everything they do. Every native garden they restore is a piece of the Florida the next generation will inherit. Their crew has been with them for years. When they take on your project, these are the people who show up.
