Serving Treasure Island, Florida
Native landscaping built for Treasure Island.
Gulf-front property means harsh conditions and hard choices. Treasure Island yards need native plants that can actually live there, not the tropical imports that keep dying. We design landscapes that match the island.
Treasure Island Gardens
A garden built for Treasure Island, not shipped in from somewhere else.
Treasure Island sits between the Gulf of Mexico and Boca Ciega Bay. Salt air comes from two directions. Soil is almost pure sand. Storm surge is a real threat. Most landscaping here fails within a few years.
Native Florida plants, specifically the ones that evolved on Florida's coastal dunes and barrier islands, don't just survive these conditions. They thrive. Sea oats stabilize sand. Seagrape handles salt spray. Gumbo limbo comes back after hurricanes.
We design Treasure Island gardens built for the place, not for a magazine. That's why they last.

Good questions
Treasure Island questions
about native landscaping
Almost pure sandy soil favors Florida's true coastal natives: sea oats, beach sunflower, dune sunflower, seagrape, saw palmetto, coontie, and gumbo limbo. These plants evolved in this exact soil and thrive without amendments or heavy irrigation once established.
Deep-rooted native trees anchor soil and resist wind better than shallow-rooted imports. Live oak, gumbo limbo, and cabbage palm are the strongest choices. Avoid Bradford pears, Norfolk Island pines, and most ornamental palms, which routinely come down in storms.
Not if they're native to Florida's coast. Species like seagrape, sea oats, saw palmetto, and gumbo limbo evolved with salt spray and handle it fine. The trick is using the right species, which is why so many Treasure Island homeowners struggle with imported tropicals that were never meant for coastal conditions.
Absolutely. Native wildflowers like beach sunflower, blanket flower, dune sunflower, and tropical sage bloom beautifully in full sun and sandy coastal soil. These also support pollinators that struggle to find habitat on developed barrier islands.
Our office is at 2621 4th Ave S in St. Petersburg, about 20 minutes from Treasure Island. We work the barrier islands regularly and know what actually survives here.
Meet the family
The Wray-Weisensel Family
Kiamesha Wray and Justus Weisensel are the couple behind Living Spaces Gardening and Living Restorations. Family owned, family operated. Based in St. Petersburg since day one.
Kiamesha is a certified Florida Master Naturalist. She grew up on dig sites with her archaeologist mother and spent weekends camping along Florida's rivers and springs with her father. Justus is a premier woodworker and builder. He's the one grading your soil, placing the boulders, building the things that have to last.
Their kids fuel everything they do. Every native garden they restore is a piece of the Florida the next generation will inherit. Their crew has been with them for years. When they take on your project, these are the people who show up.
